Book of the Covenant 1

English translation: James Cooper and A. J. Maclean, 1902 ('The Testament of Our Lord, Translated into English from the Syriac'; Edinburgh: T. and T. Clark). Public domain. This translation is from the Syriac Testamentum Domini, not directly from the Ge'ez Mashafa Kidan I. The two traditions descend from a common Greek Apostolic Tradition stream but diverge in detail. Structure: Cooper-Maclean's Book I (chapters 1 to 47) and Book II (chapters 48 to 74) are flattened into a single 74-chapter book. Each chapter is rendered as a single verse: the prose is discursive without intrinsic verse divisions. Cooper-Maclean's Introduction and Notes appendix are not part of the Testament text proper and are omitted, as are their footnotes. The text is from the archive.org scan's OCR and may keep some OCR errors.
